News & Announcements

Alumni Can Take part in a Specialized Track at the Annual February Summit
On February 8-10, the NSP alumni association invites NSP alumni to
participate in the alumni track of the February Summit in order to re-connect with other alums and the national network and celebrate the past year's accomplishments. The alumni track will begin on Friday night with an alumni reunion party. On Saturday, alumni have the opportunity to participate in the State of the Union with the rest of the NSP network and then choose from a series of workshops. During Workshop Session 1, there will be an alumni only workshop titled "How to Live an Engaged Life" highlighting ways to continue the spirit of service that we all had has NSP volunteers. In the afternoon, during Workshop Session 2, alumni are invited to participate as career mentors during the Alumni Career Panel (or to come for advice from other alums!). Saturday also includes an alumni lunch to talk about the year's highlights and successes and hear from a guest speaker who will be speaking about strategies for moving up the career ladder as well as the fourth annual alumni association meeting where a new Executive Board will be appointed. Saturday night holds the annual Recognition Banquet including a keynote speaker and a chance to connect with members of all areas of the NSP network. We hope that you will continue to join us on Sunday as we have a Strategy Session with the CEO and wrap up the weekends events.

Career Resource Site launched!
In September 2007, the NSP Alumni Association and the National Student Advisory Board launched the Career Resource Site. On the site, current volunteers can access profiles and resumes of NSP alumni mentors, as well as read an overview and frequently asked questions about the highlighted sector. Current NSP volunteers are able to contact the alumni listed to learn more and get their perspective on their work as well as access a short profile and a resume of each alumni mentor.

Another feature of the site is a tipsheet on how to describe your NSP experience on your resume. Whether a volunteer, Local Director, or Site Coordinator, you have probably wondered how to succinctly and powerfully convey your work for NSP to employers. This sheet offers suggested phrases and bullet points that you can adapt to your own resume.

Throughout the year, different career field will be highlighted every two months. The schedule is as follows: Consulting/Financial Services (Sept/Oct 2007), Law School and Legal Services (Nov/Dec 2007), Healthcare (Jan/Feb 2008), Community Development/Advocacy/Policy (Mar/Apr 2008), Non-Profit/Social Services (May/June 2008), and Education (July/August 2008). All information from past highlights will remain accessible on the site, so if volunteers didn't get a chance to view the alumni profiles for past career highlights, we invite you to check them out at any time.

To navigate to the site, click the "Alumni" link in the "navigation" side bar of NSPedia. As always, your input is appreciated and you are encouraged to contact with any questions or feedback.
