Northwestern students will sleep outside for a night to raise awareness and money in support of our homeless neighbors. Speakers will include a representative from National Student Partnerships and Kevin Rak of Connections for the Homeless. The event is sponsored by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

NSP-Somerville is conducting a panel discussion featuring Dennis Fischman, Director of Planning at the Community Action Agency of Somerville, and James Preston, an NSP client. The purpose of the panel is to discuss the issues of hunger and homelessness in Somerville, and how they relate to a national perspective on poverty.

UPenn Anti-Poverty Action Week

NSP-West Philadelphia volunteers will support UPenn's Anti-Poverty Action Week, an annual series of events sponsored by Civic House in partnership with student groups, faculty and staff, and community organizations. Throughout the week, students are invited to participate in events that raise awareness about the realities of living in poverty.

Cambridge Student Partnerships presents:

"I Am Homeless and I Went to Harvard"

Harvard students have created a visual exhibit on display inside Harvard's Science Center to dispel myths about homelessness and provide information about homelessness in Cambridge, Boston, and the United States.  


NSP volunteers will be joined by members of the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter in the dining halls of each house, where they will engage fellow students in discussion and encourage action.  Student interaction and open dialogue about these issues will provide a forum to move forward and enact change.

NSP-New Haven presents:

Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project Fast

NSP-New Haven will be lending support to the Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project (YHHAP) Fast. Volunteers will be tabling on campus to encourage students to contribute meals by swiping their meal cards. Each swipe raises funds for the project. This year all earnings will be donated to the New Haven Overflow Shelter and community efforts to keep it open for the winter.

Food and Clothing Drives

Fordham's Community Service Program and Campus Ministry are once again sponsoring the annual Food and Coat drives to benefit the local community partners in the Bronx and Manhattan. Community-based organizations such as Part of the Solution (POTS), Concourse House, National Student Partnerships (NSP) and Cathedral Community Cares of St. John the Divine will benefit greatly from your generous support.

Thanksgiving Food Drive - November 10 through 21

Local food pantries are struggling to meet the needs of their clients, particularly during the holiday season. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, please make checks out to "Campus Ministry."

Students from Howard, Georgetown, and George Washington Universities will participate on behalf of NSP-DC in a multi-service fair for the North Capitol Street neighborhood and Washington, DC residents. Attendees will have access to a variety of services in one location, including resume revision, interview preparation, introduction to financial literacy, and much more, as well as materials with information about service providers in the area.

Coinciding with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, NSP offices are sponsoring several events to highlight the issues surrounding poverty, particularly hunger and homelessness, in their communities.

Hunger Week: "For the Common Good"
Loyola University  - Chicago

November 1-8

NSP-Chicago volunteers will support the efforts of Loyola University Chicago’s Hunger Week, sponsored by University Ministry.

The mission of Hunger Week is:

To cultivate compassion in the community by educating and raising funds as we strive to stand in global solidarity with those who hunger.

Hunger Week events will include a food drive, fasting day, hunger banquet/ social class dinner, walk/run, several lectures and panel discussions, movie presentations, and a concert.

NSP-Chicago will be facilitating an informal discussion on Hunger on Thursday Nov 6th at 12pm.  Ben Reuler, Program Manager for the NSP-Chicago and Evanston Offices and a social work professional with a Masters degree from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration (SSA) and several years experience in Chicago and Oregon, will be leading the discussion.  This event will give students on campus a forum to discuss questions or insights they gained from earlier Hunger Week events, and an opportunity to discuss how hunger fits into the cycle that a lot of our low-income people in Chicago are dealing with

NSP-Richmond presents:

Thanksgiving Benefit Concert

NSP-Richmond volunteers, in collaboration with University of Richmond acapella groups, will host a Thanksgiving benefit concert to raise money to provide needy families with Thanksgiving baskets. The Sirens, Off the Cuff, The Octaves, and Choeur du Roi will be performing. Admission cost is $3 or three cans of food per student, $6 for all others, and children under 12 may attend free of charge. Larger donations are welcome.
